Communication Strategies


According to a 2010 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE): “Communication skills are ranked FIRST among job candidate’s ‘must have’ skills and qualities.” It sounds simple; say what you mean. But all too often, what we try to communicate gets lost in translation despite our best intentions. We say one thing, the other person hears something else, and misunderstandings, frustrations, and conflict ensue. This course helps us learn how to communicate more clearly and effectively. These skills will enable you to effectively connect with others, build trust and respect, and feel heard and understood. Students will identify different communication styles and develop methods for effective communication in the workplace. Students will also come away with an understanding of communication barriers, dichotomies and how organizational culture impacts our communication.


This course is appropriate for any person wishing to understand and improve his or her communication methods. Team leaders who are encountering communication problems or trust issues within their team as well as professionals who wish to learn techniques to present an argument more successfully will all benefit from this program’s structure.
